Manager Business Development, Great Lakes Capital Fund

The Manager, Business Development works in partnership with Business Development to market loan products to existing and potentialcustomers.  In addition, the VP BusinessManagement acts as a subject matter expert in the field of Affordable Lendingand is a critical resource for the Business Development team.  Specifically, the position is responsible forproviding subject matter expertise for the externally-focused BusinessDevelopment team, and for assisting the Business Development team with externalmeetings as needed.

Required Skills

Job Summary

Oversee the Fund’s alternative investments (real estate, infrastructure and real estate investment trust and other alternative investments as applicable) and demonstrate real estate market knowledge and competency in conducting research on real estate managers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• On a regular basis monitor all alternative (real estate, infrastructure, real estate investment trust and other alternative investments as applicable) investment managers to ensure contractual, compliance, fiduciary and investment responsibilities to the Fund are being met.
• Review and file quarterly and monthly performance and compliance reports from investment managers, hold quarterly conference calls and/or meetings and prepare summaries with analysis assessing performance and status for the Director of Investments.
• Develop and provide portfolio data and research analytics needed to assess rebalancing and investment opportunities.

• Perform maintenance due diligence, initial due diligence (as needed) and on-site visits with alternative investment managers.
• Oversee and analyze portfolio valuations on a quarterly basis.
• Document all due diligence meetings, presentations and conference attendance and provide summary notes to the Director of Investments on a timely basis.
• Work with the Fund’s investment consultant(s) on a routine basis to assess existing investment manager’s performance and suitability of potential investment managers.
• Assist the team in the review and evaluation of responses to RFIs (Request for Information) and RFPs (Request for Proposals).
• Evaluate and reconcile accounting and performance information provided by investment managers, Master custodian and investment consultants to create and provide monthly and quarter performance and attribution research and reports.
• Maintain records of investment managers’ transitions/cash flows, including terminations, liquidations, new allocations, asset withdrawals and additional allocations.
• Act as a liaison with alternative investment (real estate, infrastructure and real estate investment trust and other alternative investments as applicable) managers and consultant(s).

• Participate in prospective investment manager meetings.
• Approve and audit all real estate, infrastructure and REIT investment manager fees and reconciliation.
• Prepare reports on alternative investment managers and review Consultant(s) presentations/memos for the Board/Investment Committee meetings identifying performance and/or benchmark discrepancies or inaccurate information; work with partners to correct and obtain final presentations for the respective meetings.
• Prepare work papers and answer questions submitted by auditors; including but not limited to preparing appraisal data, portfolio guideline methodology, valuation methodology, currency utilization strategies, etc.
• Assist in the preparation and completion of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and Annual Investment Report, the Senate Questionnaire, the Illinois Economic Opportunity Report, the Governor’s Report, FOIA Requests, Investment Surveys, etc.
• Attend educational and industry related conferences upon request and approval by the Director of Investments.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.

About the Role and Responsibilities
This role is an important one, working closely with the founder on several development properties.  The properties are in various lifecycle stages, ranging from conceptualization, feasibility assessment, pre-development, assembling financing and closing, construction, and asset management.  The role requires managing many deal processes, so any candidate should be both a quick learner and be able to manage several projects.  The nature of the firm’s work calls for close attention to detail, identifying opportunities to improve on existing processes and “big picture” judgement.
