Area of Responsibility

We are seeking an analyst to support the underwriting, analysis and execution of direct real estate acquisitions for Allstate’s investment portfolio.  The properties will be diverse in terms of property type, including office, warehouse/distribution, retail and multifamily and geographic dispersion nationwide. Third party Investment Advisors will be the primary source for investment opportunities. The position is based in Allstate’s corporate headquarters in Northbrook, IL and the person will report to a Portfolio Manager in the Real Estate Equity Group.

In alignment with corporate goals, specific responsibilities for the Analyst I will include:

  • Support the underwriting, analysis and execution of direct real estate acquisitions for Allstate’s investment portfolio.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of proposed transactions.
  • Assist in preparation of internal presentations and memoranda required for screening potential acquisitions.
  • Assist in the presentation of clear and concise verbal and written recommendation of transactions in the investment committee setting, including Investment Memorandum, Powerpoint decks, cash flow forecasts and valuation models.
  • Coordination of the closing of related transactions including extensive interaction with internal Allstate groups including Investment Operations/Accounting, legal, and the Real Estate Investment Group and external groups including outside counsel and Investment Advisors.
  • Participate in conference calls and meetings with Investment Advisor personnel to discuss deal pipeline and current transactions.
  • Stay informed of current industry and market trends.
  • Assist in the development, and ongoing production, of internal quarterly performance reviews on the separate account portfolio working closely with Investment Operations/Accounting.
  • Assist in special projects from time to time that support the Portfolio Manager or other members of the team.
  • Limited travel will be required

Experience required:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 – 7 years experience in the field of commercial real estate analysis with at least 5 years direct experience in real estate acquisitions is required.

  • Ability to assess, underwrite and value an array of commercial real estate investments, including office, warehouse, retail and multifamily via direct cap and discounted cash flow approaches.
  • Advanced Excel and Argus experience, strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Superior analytical skills, with an emphasis on the ability to translate analytical observations into justifiable conclusions.
  • Detail oriented with a commitment to high quality work product.
  • Ability to think independently and present view point in a thoughtful and professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills – ability to perform tasks and achieve results independently and as part of a team, consistently meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple assignments effectively in a dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - ability to interact effectively and professionally with a wide variety of internal parties (managers, analysts, servicing, accounting, etc.), plus ability to independently prepare internal approval memos and other transaction file documentation materials.
  • Computer proficiency in Advance ARGUS and Microsoft Office Suite required.

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required in Real Estate or Finance; an MBA or CFA is a plus.
